Oh God, Where Art Thou?

Oh God, Where Art Thou?

Some of the most profound and inspiring scripture was written in a jail cell by Joseph Smith on March 20, 1839 in Liberty, Missouri. He asks, as we have many times throughout our life, “O God, where art thou?” He continues to ask, “Yea, O Lord, how long shall they suffer these wrongs?” I know I’ve asked this question several times, especially while I was a young missionary. I’ll never forget watching the video of The Restoration in the MTC and hearing the words, “My son, peace be unto thy soul; thine adversity and thine afflictions shall be but a small moment.” I had no idea what I was doing, and often times still wonder if I am on the right track today, but through it all, I recall what the Lord asked Joseph in chapter 122, “The Son of Man hath descended below them all. Art thou greater than he?” When I read this I swallowed hard, knowing that whatever I went through or will ever experience will never compare to what He did. Only words of gratitude fill my mouth when I feel tempted to ask that my trial or burdens be lifted away because I know that He is always helping us, we just may not recognize it. However, I know and trust full heartedly that His promise to Joseph applies to you and me, “if thou endure it well, God shall exalt thee on high; thou shalt triumph over all thy foes. - Tyler Rickenbach, A Moment With Christ
