Our Trial of Faith

Our Trial of Faith

from 27.00

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read 1 Nephi 3:7, “... I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded...” It wasn’t until I read verse six that I realized what the Lord was really asking of Nephi, “go, my son, and thou shalt be favored of the Lord, because thou hast not murmured.” The real trial of faith wasn’t so much getting the plates as it was the attitude in which he did it. The plates could have been delivered some other way, but on the contrary, Nephi was given one of the most difficult challenges he would ever face, killing Laban to obtain the brass plates. I’ve often wondered why this story is found on the sixth page of the Book of Mormon instead of buried in the pages of Isaiah where it would most likely be read by a select few. The Lord asks us to do hard things, in fact, He even asks us to endure them joyfully. However, I know from my own experience that when we submit to His will, the burdens are lighter, His light shines brighter, and our capacity to endure it well becomes an integral part of who we are; beings capable of enduring hard things. - Tyler Rickenbach, A Moment With Christ
