I am He

I am He

from 16.00

Before the Savior was betrayed with a kiss in the Garden of Gethsemane, an armed band approached the Savior, who at this point was unrecognizable. I can imagine that blood was dripping from His hair, and perhaps even pale in the face due to complete exhaustion, both in body and mind. Aware of His surroundings and what would happen next, He asks the armed band of men, “Whom seek ye?” “Jesus of Nazareth,” was their reply. Without hesitation, the Lord replies, “I am He.” The armed band was frightened. Stunned. Some even fell backwards. They simply couldn’t believe their eyes. How could this bloody figure of a man be Him? Despite what their eyes were seeing, it was indeed Him. I’ve often thought about this experience, and can’t help but think, “Could I have recognized Him?” There will be moments in our lives when it will be difficult to recognize Him, but even during such trials, we can still seek Him because He lives. “I am He,” says the Savior with assurance as He reaches towards us. - Tyler Rickenbach, A Moment With Christ
